The Consortium Vocale is the male vocal ensemble of the Cathedral of Oslo. It was founded in the mid-1980s out of the lower range vocal section of the newly formed Oslo Cathedral's Boys' Choir. Since 1998 the ensemble has devoted much time to the interpretation of Gregorian Chant. In regular workshops and rehearsal sessions under the direction of Alexander M. Schweitzer, the ensemble has dedicated itself to the paleographic study of medieval manuscripts, to an appropriation to the theological-spiritual dimension of the Gregorian repertoire and to an interpretation of Gregorian chant following semiological principles. In co-operation with Schweitzer, Consortium Vocale has published 3 CD's "Laus Mea Dominus" (2002), "Exaudiam eum" (2007) and "Vultum tuum" (2008). (recordings)
In 2003, the group was invited as one of four ensembles to the 7th international AISCGre conference for Gregorian chant in Hildesheim in Germany.
In 2004, Consortium Vocale was awarded a first price at the prestigious "Guido d'Arezzo" International Choir Competition, in the category of Christian plainchant and the special price „Domenico Cieri“.
In 2008 Consortium received the „Guidoneum Award“ by the „Fondazione Guido d’Arezzo“ for outstanding artistic achievements in the field of Gregorian Chant.
